The Wedding Party

As director Malcolm Lee and the cast of the “The Best Man” celebrates its tenth anniversary, ESSENCE.com caught up with Morris Chestnut, who reminisced on the making of this cult classic.

(clockwise right to left) The Wedding Party: Harold Perrineaux, Terrence Howard, Taye Diggs, Nia Long, Sanaa Lathan, Melissa DeSousa and Monica Calhoun.

“We shot the film in New York and the energy of the city added to our great chemistry,” Chestnut told ESSENCE.com. “Filming was a lot of fun!”

It truly is a great film. And why does it matter who the actors have married? Love knows no color.

Ten years already WOW. My favorite character was Terrance Howard. I knew him when he acted in "Sparks" but I really grew to like him more in this movie. He's so fine, he blows my mind...........

I can't believe its been 10 years since The Best Man came out! Damn, time certainly goes by fast. This is when I feel in love with Terrence Howard, he stole this movie. Taye Diggs was the star but TH made this movie his!

The Best Man was a very good movie, I remember I tried to tell everyone I knew to make sure they watched the movie. I would have to say that Terrence Howard had the best role. He always plays somewhat of a rebel or pimp like character. I have the movie on VHS I recorded the movie from HBO. It would be nice to see a sequel. As for the Sista's I would have to say that in my opinion, Melissa DeSoussa played the best role. However everyone was outstanding!!!!!

This is my favorite movie! I cannot believe it's been 10 years. I own it on dvd and I watch it whenever I need a pick me up. I loved Terrence Howard's character and my favorite scene is when they are in the lounge...especially when Morris Chestnut's character enters in and cameras are flashing. I would definitely like to see where the characters are now.

I can't choose one. They were all excellent in this movie. I would definitely be up for a sequel. So, what do you say Mr. Lee?

Great movie, wonderful, beautiful, gorgeous black actors showing young black professionals on the big screen was uplifting but disturbing to know that 3 of the 4 men married non-black women in their real lives. It may be small to some but to me it now takes away from the authenticy of the movie.
