I had always been anti wigs for my self, but then I began losing my hair due to medications I had to take after a liver transplant. My sister bought me wig, which I refused to wear for a long time. But one I did I was hooked! Even though me and my sisters have what is termed "good hair" and my own hair has since grown back love the convenience of a wig. However, the most annoying thing about wearing a wig, is the third degree I get from women, especially at work. It's not enough to say I like your hair, but then I have to with stand an interrogation. Is there some type, not as much with black women, but alot from non black women. Is there some type of etiquette? Could someone make one up!!

Excellent point, Phyllis! See how easy it is to get "caught up" in media hype? You are absolutely right...with proper care, black women can have long, healthy hair. Thanks for the reminder. :-)

Why is it so hard to believe that Oprah isn't wearing weave now? With proper hair care it is possible for a black woman to have healthy, long hair. Not believing her hair is not a weave is proving Chris Rock's point.

oprah lied to all of us yesterday when she told chris rock that it was her real hair. i am so disappointed that she tried to make the entire world believe that her hair is real. now i have to question wheter all that she says on her show if it is factual. disappointed......

Chris Rock and Oprah's "good hair" discussion was so funny. I'm glad that I didn't miss this one. I am looking forward to seeing Chris Rock's "Good Hair". We all need a good laugh and a brief escape from the woes of the world, especially during a recession / depression.

OH GET A GRIP!!! SOME OF YOU WOMEN ARE BEING TOO SENSITIVE!!! Chris rock is not blasting black women for wearing weaves, he is simply remarking on the extent some of us will go to have "good" hair! I have known black women to sell stuff out of their houses or take jewelry to the pawn shop if they run short on money to get their hair done! Black hair care products are a multimillion dollar industry and it all stems on trying to have that "good" hair, whether you already have it or not. Yes white women have done some crazy stuff too we are talking out the historical aspect of our obsession with our hair and yes we are obsessed. Oprah's hair has set trends, so has Halle Berry,Mary J. Go in any black beauty or barber shop and you will see cuts and styles of the stars being recreated. So don't knock Chris Rock ....he didn't start all this we did and are keeping it going!!

I will not waste my time and money on this stupid hair documentary either. Black women: go ahead and where all the weaves you want and don't feel bullied and ashamed by this stupid movie. I don't see Chris Rock taking on issues like Micheal Moore's documentary "Capitalism A love Story". You know why because he is not expected to take on "serious" issues of the day like the Michael Moore's of the world. Also, what's ultimately going to separate the women from the girls in this rough times today is not the most beutiful, believable weave a black woman is wearing but the black woman who can hold a job, keep stunning, not just good credit, and thrive and strive, not just survive in this depression that we are in. Don't forget blacks have the highest, the highest unemployment rate among any group of people. So, do you think we should be worrying about hair weaves right about now. I don't think so.

I think the reason it's always discussed about black women and weaves is because we are the only people that get hair sewn in that is not the same as our hair texture. Yes other races of women do it but the hair that they get matches their hair texture and it's not so obvious. 9 out of 10 times when you see a sister rocking long silkiy hair it;s not hers nor is it her God give texture. Carry on folks

Ain't nothing attractive about gray hair sis, it makes you look old and dated. I know a lady that is 50 and sporting a head full of gray locs. She looks like she is about 65 years old and she is complaining that she is not meeting men

Renae, don't feel bad..my message was removed, too. I guess when you make sense, and not full of drama, folks don't want to hear your opinion..but again, I still agree with you and with some of the new postings that white woman has been wearing wigs and weaves FOREVER!!!!

I see ESSENCE removed my comment from yesterday since I said this whole hair thing is ignorant when there's more important stuff to talk about. This site is worse than the sites we expect to report on crap like this.

Un-huh...Ya'll saw how Oprah didn't want to say too much about weaves---because she knows she has one. And so does Chris Rock's wife and his mother...what's the big deal!! I don't understand how Oprah can be that insensitive to black women that she would allow Chris Rock to get on her show and attempt to exploit us. White women have been wearing weaves for years, but we haven't seen a documentary on them, have we? Ask Jessica Simpson...she has her own line of "extentions" aka WEAVES! As long as it looks good and you're comfortable with it...who cares!!
