Word On the Street: What Black Men Think About Your Hair

We were curious. We wanted to know what men really thought about our hair. Do they care if we add a few pieces here and there? Would they kick us to the curb if we chopped it all off on a whim? ESSENCE.com hit the streets of New York City to find out. These are their sometimes hair-raising responses. Ladies, take note or (not).

Hair!!! Remember we are black women and we all have diffrent styles of hair. spme kinky ,,straight, nappy ect.. and we can do anything with it. If our brothers are looking for long hair he has a choice,. I think women where their hair how they want . Remember we are in the 21st century anyting goes from weave to ball head.

What's up with these men thinking they can be so confident and "disclose" their preference? How about I don't want a man with a receding hair line or one that's balding or has a pack of hot dogs in the back of his head or worse yet those razor bumps, come on! Weave or not, some men just need to be grateful they have a good woman.

Keep in mind, there were countless amount of men that have been interviewed, so they are looking for 'skewed' results. I think men like anything that suits a woman and if she is secure that is tops. My husband likes natural hair and he doesn't care for it long, so every man is different. I have worn short Halle hair and got a slew of positive comments from men. I guess some like women who think outside of the box!

I hate the fact the I have very long relaxed hair that everyone assumes is a weave/tracks. I don't understand that. Because I'm black, its impossible for my hair to grow this long? Ignorant in the literal sense of the word! How do you not know the difference??

Pure comedy...LKR, selective reading I suppose. Failed to address why you made the comment "make our race look bad". If you are non-black, why would you make such a comment? Wow, I never knew aruging with ignorance could be so entertaining!

I don't have a preference on hair. I just like it to compliment a woman's face!
